51ĀŅĀ× Offers New Master of Arts Program in Music Therapy
CLEVELAND (May 25, 2021) ā 51ĀŅĀ×ās School of Music announced a newly accredited programāthe only such program in Northeast Ohio and just one of three in the state.
The program provides the opportunity for music therapy practitioners to advance their careers and achieve the highest level of music therapy training.
āWe are so glad to be able to offer professional music therapists a masterās degree on the Cleveland State campus where engaged learning helps careers thrive,ā said Heather Russell, Ph.D., director of the School of Music.
The program is fully approved by the American Music Therapy Association and accredited by both the National Association of Schools of Music and the Higher Learning Commission.
āWeāve worked hard over the past two years to secure faculty, align course offerings, and create capacity for this program and we greatly appreciate the support of 51ĀŅĀ× leadership in this endeavor,ā added Dr. Russell.
Program includes advanced clinical practice and research in specialized areas
51ĀŅĀ×ās Master of Arts in Music Therapy provides advanced music therapy training as well as interdisciplinary specialization in the following areas: health care administration, special education, health sciences and mental health. Graduate students will grow in advanced clinical and research skills within music therapy as well as a select area of related expertise.
To provide critical clinical training experience, 51ĀŅĀ×ās music therapy program is partnered with several Greater Cleveland community agencies, including University Hospitals, Judson Manor and Park and Josephās Home.
